“Hello again,” a voice that might’ve once been comforting now caused a chill to set in. It was too calm, too blasé, too…empty for the situation.
He jerked his head up and laid eyes on Anshee for the first time in 13 years.
“What are you? Why are you?” he tried to ask before he finally managed to get the question he wanted to ask out. “What does the gang want?”
“Gang?” she tilts her head slowly to the side, dark eyes staring back at him blankly. “I haven’t been part of the gang for 10 years.”
“Then why…?”
“My current boss gave me orders to silence you.”
“And you agreed?!”
Anshee gave a barely there smile. He noticed the cruel gleam in her coal-like eyes, he noticed the black ribbon tying her fiery hair back, he noticed the faintest trace of blood on her pale skin.
“My loyalty is to my boss. Not to a boy I might have loved once, over a decade ago.”
From somewhere beside her, she picked up a knife.
“Now, shall we begin?”
